John got an early start in the magic business by appearing on Montreal’s Magic Tom show when he was six years old. Learning a few old tricks his dad had from his youth, John entertained friends and family, to thunderous indifference. It was his uncle, however, who recognized his enthusiasm in magic and weeks later a Marshall Brodien magic set arrived in the mail.
During high school John kept busy performing shows for local organizations such as the Volunteer Fire Departments, Royal Canadians Legions, Boy Scouts of Canada and Aunt Tillie’s garden parties, to name a few. His younger sister was recruited as his onstage assistant, a role she remembers fondly to this day despite years of therapy. Really she’s doing much better now! For one engagement John found himself without his trusted assistant and, thinking quickly, enticed his then-girlfriend, Jane, into the leading lady role. The most amazing thing is that years later John and Jane got married and have been working together ever since as John and Jane Martin’s Incredible Illusion. A trick that has yet to be explained!
John and Jane’s act has won the stage competition at Magie Montreal, Canada’s largest magician's convention. They have made numerous appearances on CTV’s Telethon of Stars, perform regularly at Country fairs and festivals and most recently were the featured act at Parc Safari, a theme park south of Montreal. Performing daily, John and Jane did over 150 shows in two months. Interestingly their stage, Theatre In The Woods, was right next to the monkey compound. While monkeys don’t make the best audience, the old saying “monkey see, monkey do” is quit accurate as the monkeys are now doing John and Jane's act!
John and Jane Martin’s Incredible Illusion show continues to amaze and entertain audiences, large and small, throughout Quebec, Eastern Ontario and parts of Peoria. Their show is funny, fast paced, clean and above all ENTERTAINING.
